Project Backstory
This kitchen is part of a whole-house renovation in Chesterland, Ohio, in a home tucked into the woods. With the rest of the house being reworked, our client wanted the kitchen surfaces to feel like a natural fit for the wooded setting outside the windows.
We fabricated and installed Dakar quartzite for the countertops. Its warm, earthy tones and flowing movement echo the surrounding trees and give the kitchen a grounded, organic feel that suits a home in the woods.
Because the whole house was being updated at once, the kitchen needed a surface that would look right for years rather than one season. Quartzite is a hard, durable natural stone, so it gives the homeowners a countertop that stands up to daily cooking while anchoring the newly renovated space.

Dakar is a natural quartzite with warm earth-toned coloring and soft, flowing veining. Like all quartzite it is quarried as natural stone, so each slab is unique, which makes it a good fit for a kitchen where you want the counters to feel organic rather than uniform.
Yes. Quartzite is one of the harder natural stones and resists scratching and heat better than marble. Sealed on installation and resealed periodically, it stands up well to everyday cooking, making it a practical choice for a hardworking kitchen.
Clean it with warm water and a mild pH neutral cleaner, and avoid abrasive pads and acidic products. Reseal it on the schedule your fabricator recommends, usually about once a year, so it keeps resisting stains. Use a trivet under very hot cookware as a good habit even though quartzite handles heat well.
